Herbal Therapy

Services – Herbal TherapyFor thousands of years, herbal therapy has been used to treat both acute and chronic conditions. Formulas composed of herbs and natural substances are structured based on the properties of each herb and how each interacts synergistically with the others to resolve specific issues. It is from these formulas that an herbalist fine tunes a prescription to treat imbalances that a patient is presenting at the time.

The basic tenet of herbal therapy is that there is an imbalance in the body which allows us to become vulnerable to pathogenic influences (external or internal). Herbal therapy aims to address imbalances in the body that lead to dysfunctions of our organ systems or blockages that cause undernourishment to tissues in our bodies. Herbs assist in restoration of the imbalances, so our bodies are better able to manage influences, including disease and stress.

Acupuncture and herbal therapy are synergistic in that they both aim to harmonize the body to optimally function with a good supply of oxygen and nutrients while eliminating toxicity or waste. Together they resolve patterns of disharmony more efficiently.

According to Herbal Medicine Boards, herbal therapy is constituted of the following guidelines:

-A consultation prior to prescribing a formula (be it prepared or custom modified)

-The practitioner is trained in East Asian Herbal Therapy.
