I have always loved helping others, but strangely enough it was my study of the martial arts that led me to the healing arts. During my study of ju-jitsu we were taught to use acupressure on each other to prevent injury and improve overall health. The idea of a holistic therapy that could improve health with touch was amazing to me, and prompted me to leave my job as a draftsman and become a massage therapist. Over the next decade I helped people manage musculoskeletal pain through massage therapy and acupressure. It was during this time that I began studying a martial art based on internal focus and the flow of energy called BaGuaZhang.\u00a0 This led me on a journey of self-discovery and transformation, and I began to see an interlacing web of communication throughout the world, and to recognize our place in it.<\/p>\n
In 2014, I graduated Magna cumme laude from the Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine program at the American Institute of Alternative Medicine and became a licensed acupuncturist. Continuing my education, I studied with Dr. Richard Tan, who showed me the beauty of balance style acupuncture based on the<\/p>\n
Ba-Gua, the ancient organization of energies, just like the art of BaGuaZhang that brought me down this path. How wonderful and beautiful the connections in the tapestry of life can be.<\/p>\n
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, being out in nature in any way I can, Latin and ballroom dancing, playing music, meditation, and of course BaGuaZhang.<\/p>\n
After spending the last few years in private practice in Lancaster, Solon, and Columbus, I am now honored to practice this ancient art of healing and communication with the awesome team and community at Urban Acupuncture.<\/p>\n

Simply put, it was the right treatment for my malady. This prompted me to move to Santa Fe, New Mexico and begin my studies at Southwest Acupuncture College; I completed them at the American Institute of Alternative Medicine in 2006. Since that time, I have both maintained a private, acupuncture practice as well as worked as an acupuncturist at Nationwide Children\u2019s Hospital as part of an integrative clinic that treats chronic pain in children and adolescents.<\/p> Further learning opportunities under the tutelage of both Susan Johnson (Master Tung\u2019s Acupuncture) and Richard Tan (Balance Method) exposed me to the ideas of distal point and community acupuncture treatments. And, the Community Acupuncture Model of treating multiple patients in the same room and charging each of them less to allow acupuncture to be received more frequently as the therapy that it is intended to be, immediately appealed to me. It opened up the possibility of acupuncture to more people all the while circumventing the insurance industry and our ailing healthcare system which seems inherently broken; services and beautiful buildings exist, but accessibility and affordability simply do not.<\/p> A \u2018chance\u2019 meeting with Sue Bowlus struck up an immediate friendship, and her contagious enthusiasm propelled us forward to explore the idea of bringing Community Acupuncture to Columbus, Ohio. A road trip (every good story has one) that involved a boat, to Detroit, Michigan with fellow acupuncturist Linda Chun joining us, solidified Urban Acupuncture into existence.
